Elizabeth von Arnim, also known as Mary Annette Beauchamp, was an English novelist. She was born on August 31, 1866 and passed away on February 9, 1941. Hailing from Australia, she entered into matrimony with a German nobleman, and her initial literary creations are situated in Germany. Her initial marriage bestowed upon her the title of Countess von Arnim-Schlagenthin, while her subsequent marriage granted her the title of Elizabeth Russell, Countess Russell. Following the death of her first husband, she engaged in a three-year extramarital relationship with the novelist H. G. Wells. Subsequently, she entered into matrimony with Frank Russell, who is the older sibling of the Nobel laureate and philosopher Bertrand Russell. She was a relative of the New Zealand-born author Katherine Mansfield. Initially referred to as May in her early childhood, she presented herself to readers as Elizabeth through her first book, and later adopted this name among her friends and family.
